Equine Network: a niche horse website that bought everything horse owners need

Starting from niche magazines and a horse-owner site with only about 600,000 monthly uniques, Equine Network's founders bought or started businesses that sold to the same audience: roadside assistance for horse trailers, fly control, the largest roping event, and a streaming network. Sam says it sold for about $300 million, with former WWE executives now helping run it.

“we got this great crazy idea where they had this like small website for horse owners, but they buy and start every business under the sun for this. And so they own the AAA for horses. They own a fly control business that has 4,500 people spending something like $300— sorry, 45,000 people. Spending like $300 a year, and they like send you stuff to keep flies off your horse. They now own the largest roping event in the country, and they own all these other businesses. And I just saw that they sold. They sold for $300 million, I think like six months ago.”

Steal thisOwn a niche audience first, then buy or launch the businesses that already advertise to it.

“I'm always interested in media and I saw this business and the founder and CEO, he said they do $85 million a year in revenue with high 20s profit margins. They only have 200 employees. I saw they just got bought for $300 million and I saw that the WWE guys, I forget their names, who they are, but I saw that they are now on the boards and they're like, are leading the business.”
