Tony Hawk's investing filter: passion, more-than-money value, and people

Tony says restaurants have been his riskiest bets (Counter Burger failed; Chicken Hawk, his Nashville hot chicken spot, is working). The deals that work are ones he's passionate about and can add more than money to, or ones backed by a trusted 'dream team' of operators.

“But I would say what has worked is if it's something that I am truly passionate about and that I can contribute in more ways than just money, those seem to be the ones that, that do well enough. And the people behind it, I mean, that's what it is. It's just like, you know, there, there's sort of a dream team of people that I know, and if they tap me to be involved in something, even if something I know nothing about, I've, I'm in.”
