Tony Hawk's Airwalk deal fell from $1,500 to $300 a month in one year

In the late '80s skate boom, Tony's best year was about $100K, and he spent it on cars, trips and Sharper Image sprees with no thought of saving. When skating crashed in 1991, his Airwalk shoe sponsorship was cut month after month, from $1,500 down to $300 within a year.

$300
Monthly Airwalk shoe sponsorship after 1991 cuts (down from $1,500) · USD/month
“If I had to give you an example, I was making about $1,500 a month from my shoe sponsor Airwalk. They, they would call me every month or so and say, oh, you know, we really gotta cut you down a little bit. So then that went to $1,000, and then 2 months later that went to $500 and eventually ended up at $300 within the same year time span.”
