The BRCA gene carries roughly an 80% breast cancer risk

Sam explains why he and his wife screened embryos: the BRCA gene (common among Jewish families, the one that led Angelina Jolie to a preventive mastectomy) carries an ~80% lifetime chance of breast cancer.

“Well, she did. A lot of women do it preemptively because if you have this gene, I believe it's an 80% chance that you're going to get breast cancer. It's very common amongst, uh, Jewish folks.”
