Shaan's miss: passing on Descartes Labs satellite imagery

Shaan recounts meeting the founder of Descartes Labs, a Los Alamos spinout running ML and computer vision on satellite imagery to predict things like corn yields for hedge funds; he was convinced it would win but, not investing actively at the time, missed the boat.

“And this became one of my misses. I was like, oh, I really should invest in this. And at the time I wasn't really investing super actively and I missed the boat. I think this has become a very big company, but at the time I was pretty convinced that this is going to be a winner.”
